Whoops I Graduated

hi blog

Haven't posted jack-anything in awhile. Here's to finally graduating college, finishing a 3-something minute animation, and starting a full-time where I was once interning. No complaints. I met some seriously talented artists over the past four years - not to mention handfuls of amazing people I can call my friends.

My goal, after this week, is to post once a week.

This one's about side-projects.

A month ago, I posted a flyer for a show that I pulled together. I'm happy to say that this is probably the last time I will ever miss being present at one of these gigs - no mas colegio.

I had to add a headliner - so I popped some heads off. Two more flyers are underway.

(aw yea,  quarter prints)

Also, here's some Rad Fortress gifs I worked on. More on the way (and hopefully some new toons).

Full Rough Animation + Gif Party

Long time no update. March has been full of animating. Before spring break, I finished all of the rough animation for Space Puppy. Now I'm in maniac cleanup-and-color-mode. Here are the roughs:

March Coming in Like a Lambchop

Oh hey, it's March. March comes in like a lion, or out like a lamb - since I've only experienced Ohio Marches, I assume that saying is bologna and March is actually just this GIF-like flux month.

Plugging away at thesis, that is all that I will say. I will probably post a big update next week (bgs + finished animation pass).
Some articles from the past week-plus:

This Week In Ketchup

This Week In Ketchup: a weekly recap of life. By weekly, I mean, I did a similar thing last week.

This week was full of paper-writing, finishing a sketchbook, visiting with family, and signing up for my final college courses. Craziness.

I drew lots of hands for Character Design class, where I discovered the amazing Nightmares Fear Factory Flickr. Just in time for Halloween!

I had my Hardcow featured in the first of many iterations of Rad Fortress Showcase. I also got to show the piece to a bunch of prospective-student parents, which I hope didn't upset them too much.

I also made a fun little gif and animated a bit for the next Rad Fortress cartoon.

What else? Well, I made thumbnailed, quick storyboards for Portfolio class (new post soon). I realized what my final project in interactive design is going to be, and I started doodling/drawing my Youtube friend, Jarrod Alonge. More finished stuff in the works, I do promise!

Lottery Roulette GIF/VIDEO

Here's a .gif I made for Experimental Animation class! These are ticket book fronts from The Ohio Lottery. My family owns a small gas station/convenience store out in the middle of central Ohio - at the beginning of the semester, my mom gave me a whole slab of these, saying maybe I could find a use for them. I ended up scanning each individual card three times: once flat, once slightly crumpled, and once (after 'weathering' them with water and sunlight). I used a few scans to 'wipe' the card across the screen to add a different type of strobe effect.

The concept revolves around the cycle of money associated with lottery. Have worked at a store that sells lottery, I have handed over countless tickets to countless customers: some dedicated regulars, some desperate trash-pickers, some high spenders, and some just looking for a quick jab at 'luck'. Though it can be completely argued that the lottery is a waste of time and money, it's funny when you contrast that fact to the fact that lottery tickets bring in lots of money and support to small businesses. It's also funny when you consider how many tickets come in a book, and the fact that they are all worth $1-20 - that adds up! The money that is given back to a community in kind of twisted little way is compelling - I wanted to highlight the cycle. Money is frivolously spent, intently spent, and desperately spent on lottery tickets: then, once in a while, the money is given back: someone wins. The spending continues. The business is able to stay afloat and continue to serve it's customers. Everybody wins. Upon talking to my mom recently, I heard we hit our biggest winner yet.

Here's a quick, trippy video-version I slapped up on Vimeo:
