Space Dog: Rough Pass Pt1
Here's what I've got so far as far as a start to roughs for this final assignment in Animation II. Much more on the way. We'll see how far it can get by the end of the day!

Meet Petey (2D Puppet/Rig)
Today has been a love and hate battle with this beast! I worked on this for about 5.5 hours, and had an unfortunate time losing all the progress I had made! Though I was furious, it might have been for the best: when I returned to this a few hours later, I was able to apply everything I had learned about Toon Boom's network system, keyframes, and puppeting capabilities. This project is a quick intro to the idea of a puppet/rig, and all we have to do is create a simple rig and execute a simple action. I chose to have Petey SQUAWK! And I hope to make a sound effect myself, if need be. Shh.

Animation II Character Rig Idea
Our next project in Animation II is a quick project involving a character rig and a simple animated action. I did a few sketches of a silly little creature, named him Petey, and decided I will be making him SQUAWK! This will be my first character rig, so I am really interested in seeing how it turns out.

Multi-Plane Background
Pass "1" after a handful of passes. This is what the interior of my brain looks like during finals week. I would like to add this to my walk cycle when I'm finished with it. The project called for lots of pegs and fumbling with the network in Harmony - things I haven't worked with very much, and things I feel much more comfortable with now... I'm looking forward to adding background camera movement to my future animations. Here's my stupid-huge Photoshop files:

Attitude Walk Character and Notes
Here's a quick character design that I made up for my Animation II walk cycle.
I decided to step out of my comfort-zone and do a character of one of my friends!

Rough Weight Exercise Pass 3+
Third and final (for now!) rough pass for class. I'd like to finish this up for the end of the year and my demo reel. I added tails and made the feet less slide-y in some real problem areas.
Also, here's some notes from class:

Rough Weight Exercise Pass 2
Finishing up for Tuesday - one more update to go. There's a lot of secondary movement and squash and stretch I'd like to revisit and emphasize. Really rough, but was a lot of fun. I look forward to cleaning this up into a polished piece in the future.

Rough Lifting/Weight Exercise
The gist of what I'd like to happen.
The assignment is to have a character pick up a box and pick up a fridge.

Animation II: Quick Character Design
Here's a quick character I am creating for my next animation assignment. We have the option of either using one of four pre-set characters, as well as the option of making up our own. The goal of the assignment is to have the character pick up a box and a fridge, showing believable weight.
Also, I have sworn off doing any coyote/doggy characters for awhile. I was thinking of doing a reptile but... in the midst of my thought process, I am thinking "why pick up a fridge?" "to steal a fridge" "what type of thing steals?" and, voila - a raccoon. In a ski mask.
Inspiration/Reference and my doodlework/initial idea sketches. More to come!
Animation II: Effects and Weight Process
Here are some updated passes of my effects animation assignment. When I have time, I'd like to go though and do one more cleaned up color pass.
Also, today we turned in a quick project about falling objects, weight, and gravity. The assignment entailed simply dropping a bowling ball, a feather, a water balloon, and an egg at the same time, and got us ready to transition into our next project which focuses on believable weight. This is my first pass which is subject to future change and clean-up.

Animation II: Effects Notes and Idea
The next project in Animation II is special effects animation... I'm excited. Here's my sloppy in-class notes/scribbles, followed by my idea for the project. I wanted to run with the unused idea of Little Ms. Muffet that I came up with for my Illustration class (http://sarahmaeschmidt.blogspot.com/2012/10/fairy-tale-mashup.html)

"Hardcow" Storyboard Pass #3
New drawings, and some happy colors thrown in!
I amped it up a bit for a presentation in my Media Arts Seminar Class. Good conversation, and lots of puns followed.
