Urban Scrawl 8

August 23rd and 24th made for a pretty cool weekend spent at Columbus's own Urban Scrawl 8. It's a two day event with live music and painting. Paintings all go to the benefit of the arts district and art programs around the area. My friend Ian was harping on me and my roommate Maxx to apply for canvases earlier this summer. A month later we were given big primed plywood canvases (4X8, 8X8). Here's a picture from Saturday night as well as Saturday afternoon, followed by what I ended up with and me being a terrible dork:

Wish I would have taken more photos - I only was able to catch a few of my friends by their pieces. I feel really fortunate to know a handful of people who want to and can make giant paintings with the sun beating down on them. Take a look at their websites, too:

#ManCrushMonday #1

Here are some sketches and a final drawing/sketch painting of my boyfirend, Jon.
We've ordered lots of pizza this summer from a local place here in Columbus called The Pizza Joint, formely known as Gumby's.
He is the pizza to my pokeysticks.

Band-Geek Alla-Prima Painting

Reference and a painting. Was done in one illustration-class session, alla-prima style with acrylics! If I could do it again, I would work on keeping consistencies with my warms and cools, I'd un-muddy the uniform, and I would tone down the hair a bit. Thanks Krista for your lovely band-geek-ified face!

Exterior Environment Process

Process post for this Illustration project due Monday. The top is the line-work, the middle is the value study - and the bottom is the start to the watercolor/colored pencil piece! This is unlike anything I've ever done before, but I am glad to be doing it. It was extremely tempting to add more subjects, but I tried to stray away from my 'comfort zone' of characters.

Here is my post with the thumbnails/initial concept of this piece:
